Keynote: “The Global Landscape of Musical Theatre”
Francesca Moody is a renowned British producer who is the founder of FMP, an Olivier Award winning and Tony nominated production company. In this keynote, Francesca will offer an international perspective on current trends, challenges and opportunities within new musical theatre, reflecting on her experience taking work to the West End, Broadway and Australia. In conversation with set designer and theatre consultant Lucy Osborne.

Featuring a wide industry experts, this panel will explore the current landscape of new Swedish musical theatre. The panelists will share their views on the challenges of developing new musicals in Sweden, and discuss future opportunities.

From Operation Mincemeat to TWO STRANGERS: Learnings from BEAM AND the UK Musical Theatre Network
“Writing a musical is very difficult and new musicals require a great deal of developmental support… We support writers and nurture outstanding new musicals in the UK”.
For this panel we will be joined by James Hadley, executive director of the UK Musical Theatre Network (MTN), and award-winning composer and musical supervisor Tim Sutton.
MTN is an organisation focused on the professional development and staging of new UK musicals. The organisation also runs BEAM, a unique biannual showcase festival. West End shows Operation Mincemeat and Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) are notable BEAM success stories.
James and Tim will be reflecting on their experiences nurturing new musicals and building a national network that advocates for the genre of musical theatre and promotes artistic excellence.
The sessions will be chaired by Nina Norblad, musical artist and director of the musical theatre programme at HSM.

Spring Awakening – Presentation by students from Artisten
A short extract from the award-winning musical Spring Awakening, which will opening at Stadsteatern in May.
The production features students from the Musical Theatre programme at HSM and from the Music Education programme at the Gothenburg Academy of Drama and Music. The students are making Spring Awakening as their final production for the programme.

Group Discussion: “Future of New Musicals in Sweden”
What practical steps can we take to build a stronger network for Swedish musical creators?
How can we better support the development of new musicals in Sweden?
How can new Swedish musicals reach bigger and broader audiences – at home and abroad?
This interactive workshop will be an opportunity for everyone to participate and share their experience and ideas. Facilitated by director and writer Markus Virta and musical theatre writer and supervisor David White.
