ABOUT THE SYMPOSIUM

Join us in Gothenburg for a groundbreaking symposium on the future of Swedish musical theatre.
What are the opportunities, and challenges for developing new musicals in Sweden?  What lessons can we learn from international initiatives and trends? How can we work together to nurture outstanding new work?

Featuring keynote talks from international speakers, panel talks, group discussions and opportunities for networking, we hope the symposium will be an opportunity to share ideas, learn from each other, foster collaborations and gain new contacts – both in Sweden and internationally.

Francesca Moody (UK)

Francesca Moody is a British theatrical producer best known for bringing the theatrical versions of Fleabag and Baby Reindeer, both of which were adapted into television series, to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Francesca’s production company, FMP, is Olivier Award-winning and Tony nominated, and works with leading writers and new talent to produce bold, award-winning shows.

Tim Sutton (UK)

Tim Sutton is an award-winning composer and musical director for theatre, commercial media and choir.. He has worked extensively with the National Theatre, Royal Shakespeare Company, National Theatre of Scotland, Young Vic, Shakespeare’s Globe, Almeida Theatre and Sonia Friedman Productions. Tim was the Musical Director for the National’s Theatre’s famous show War Horse from 2017-20.

James Hadley (UK)

James Hadley is Executive Director of the UK Musical Theatre Network, an organisation focused on the professional development and staging of new UK musicals. The organisation also runs BEAM, a unique biannual showcase festival. West End shows Operation Mincemeat and Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) are notable BEAM success stories.

About the venue

The symposium will take place at Kronhuset in central Gothenburg. One of the city’s oldest buildings, nowadays Kronhuset is a meeting place for cultural actors in the heart of the city.

The venue is a ten minute walk from Gothenburg’s train station. The nearest tram stop is Brunnsparken.

About the organisers

The Swedish New Musical Theatre symposium is being organised by studio three sixty, a design & consultancy practice based in Gothenburg. We create dynamic and versatile cultural spaces through a combination of design, consultancy, and live events. The company’s founding director, Lucy Osborne, is an award-winning set and costume designer, whose recent projects include Set and Costume Design for A Midusmmer Nights Dream (Royal Shakespeare Company) and Set Design for a new production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Gothenburg Opera).
