A unique development opportunity for new Swedish musicals
Introduction
Do you have an idea for a new musical?
A first draft of a script? Some songs, sketches, or musical themes — but no clear pathway for what comes next?
MusikalLab is your next step.
On 4–6 May 2026, two selected musical projects will be given the opportunity to take part in an intensive three-day development workshop led by an international team of directors, dramaturgs, musical directors, and performers.
This is a rare chance to:
- Develop your work in a professional, supportive environment
- Test material with high-level musical theatre artists
- Receive expert feedback and dramaturgical guidance
- Explore structure, storytelling, musical language, and theatrical form
- Move your project forward faster, deeper, and with clarity
On 7 May, extracts from the development process will be presented as part of Scenkonsts Branschdagar, giving the entire Swedish performing arts industry a chance to experience the work.
Pitch Day: 26 March 2026
To be considered for the MusikalLab workshop, you must first pitch your musical idea to an expert jury in Stockholm. This pitch day will take place at Stadsteatern on Thursday 26th March, and each group will have 10 minutes to present their idea.
Projects may be at any early development stage — from first idea to partial draft — but must demonstrate:
- A strong artistic vision
- Clear storytelling ambition
- Musical and theatrical potential
To apply, please register for a pitch through the link below. The deadline to apply for a pitch slot is Thursday 19th March.
Submission guidelines and application details can be found in Swedish here and English here. If you have any further questions, please feel free to email us at info@swedishmusicaltheatrenetwork.com.
